Dunk Tank and Chainlink-type Fencing Wanted

The Palouse Chamber of Commerce is having a dunk tank at Palouse Days this year, in September!  How fun is that?!  But they’re in need of a couple items in order to make it happen.  They’re looking for some kind of tank, one large enough to accommodate a person falling into.  They’re also looking for some kind of chain-link type fencing to put in front of the “dunkees” to protect them from errant tosses.

If you have either of those items you’d be willing to donate, please contact Palouse Chamber President Debbie Goetz at 208-301-8014. Thank you.

What Do "Exchange Luncheon" Coffee and a Bicycling Seminar Share?

I read about the "Exchange Luncheon" in a winter issue of The Valleyford Clarion, the monthly newspaper published by Elaine Reisling, owner of On Sacred Grounds Coffee Shop, 12212 E Palouse Hwy, Valleyford, Washington.

Aware that local senior citizens had begun gathering on Thursdays at Elaine's establishment for lunch, and also that many of them share a monthly "Souper Supper" at Valleyford Church across the street, I put two and two together and ~~ came up with the wrong answer.

"Exchange Luncheon" did not mean 'exchange' of recipes, or pot luck dishes!

When I got around to asking, Elaine explained:
"The Exchange Luncheon is called such because the weekly Exchange arrives. This luncheon morphed from a coffee visit into a 3 course meal (at times -- weekly menu varies.) This week: chips, celery/carrot sticks with side dressing and twice baked potatoes with chili. The price should be $2.75 for 1/2 a potato or $4.00 for a whole potato (2 halves). Reservations recommended since I often sell out. Luncheon begins around noon and continues to around 2 PM."

Keep abreast of what's happening at the busy corner location in Valleyford. You won't be disappointed, because Elaine is a charming hostess who generates more activities to please customers than anyone you're likely to meet anywhere on the Palouse. Such as a Bicycling Seminar, March 16, 2013, 11:00 a.m., and two special events scheduled in May and June.

Bruce Hunt, Robert Tate. and Alan Torgerson, author of  his bike book, Killer Bees Strike Canada, will present the free talk. They will discuss the travails, tactics and fun involved in planning a bike trip. Alan's book will be available, too.

If weather permits, the group will meet outdoors. However, Elaine recommends reservations, due to limited space.

Freeman Schools Top Fund Raisers For 8th Consecutive Years

Congratulations Freeman Public Schools!

For the 8th year in a row, Freeman school raised more funds than any other school in the area in the "Burgers with a Heart program."

All funds raised from this event go directly to the Vanessa Behan Crisis Nursery, which provides a safe haven for abused and neglected children.

This year, the schools raised $1722.96, bringing their grand total to
$14,155 over a nine year span! The second place school this year was Riverside, raising a total of $668.

The program is headed up by the Future Business Leaders of America chapter at the high school, but it truly is a district wide event. Helping out this year was, the middle school leadership class through their sale of Valentine’s Day “Heart Grams”. The class raised a total of $417.96 for this great cause.

An additional $578 was raised at Red Robin on February 7th, 2013,
with the remainder being raised from the sale of paper hearts throughout the community.

A  huge thank you goes out to everyone who dined at Red Robin on the 7th, those who purchased and sold hearts, and for those who either made, sold, or bought heart grams.
