South East Spokane County Fair 2013 Royalty

The newspaper is waiting for the promised news from the South East Spokane County Fair Royalty Committee for the results of the recent 2013 contestant winners. Last year's royalty can be seen on SESC website  and I assure you, as soon as our popular regional photographer, Richard Slover of Valleyford sends me, the photographs he took at this Royalty Progran held at the Grange last Sunday at Rockford, Washington, I'll publish them immediately.

Like the standing room only crowd, I enjoyed the special event immensely. However, the Programs available only provided the first names of the ten lovely young contestants, and since I'm not aquainted with them I'd rather wait for the official news, than to publish a mistake.

The entrants were:
  • Kirsten, sponsored by Rockford Historical Society
  • Alysha, sponsored by Rockford V.F.W, Ladies
  • Melaney, sponsored ty Rockford Firebells
  • Kelsey, sponsored by McIntosh Grange
  • Jamie, sponsored by Rockford Lions Club
  • Shelby, sponsored by Hangman Creek Chamber of Commerce
  • Natalie, sponsored by Rockford Women's Club
  • Kati, sponsored by McIntosh Grance
  • Alexis, sponsored by V.F.W. Post
Judges were: Amy Mercer, Owner of Capello Salon in Liberty Lake, Bobbi Whitehead, Human Resources Consultant for the Washington Department of Transportatin, and Caroline McRoberts, Executive Assistant to the Superinendant of Central Valley School District.

Don Henderson was Master of Ceremonies and Kris Pttibone and Amanda Miller were the Royalty Committee. Contest sponsors were Bank of Fairfield and St. John Hardware of Fairfield, Washington. McIntosh Grange provided use of their facility and 20 contributors were recognized on the Program attendees received. Northwest Images and Shepherd Photos were also recognized for the portraits of the Royalty.

Garfield Library Thanks Community for its Support

The primary classes at Garfield Elementary lead the annual library penny drive by raising $186.86 in April.

Congratulations to Mrs. Kern’s class for being the biggest donor! Librarian Kelsey will see you at your cupcake and ice cream party. Donations from the school and branch totaled $193.50. Garfield has a truly great community.

The Garfield Library has received $400 in quality children’s books as a part of a 2 to 1 matching grant from the Libri Foundation.  The $150 in matching money was raised through library book sales.  Each title was personally selected by Librarian Kelsey with her customers in mind.  Watch for announcements of the date for a special community reading to introduce children to the great new books.

Children’s Summer Reading is right around the corner; with the first program on June 12 at 3 p.m.  Adult and teen summer reading runs from June 1 through August 31.

All participants will be rewarded with something special.  Hastings Entertainment has provided a $20 gift certificate for the teen summer reading drawing.  The generosity of the community helps make all our programs extra special.

Remember to like us on Facebook and be the first to learn about library and community events.

Call 635-1490 or drop by for more information about programs or becoming a Friend of the Garfield Library.
