Art Exhibit Opens With Reception, August 5, 2012

August exhibit is pastels by students of award winning resident artist Judy Fairley

Opening on Sunday, August 5 and running through Sunday, August 26, Artisans at the Dahmen Barn presents an exhibit of pastel paintings by students of Judy Fairley, award winning artist who has been a resident artist at the Dahmen Barn since it opened in 2006.  Participating artists will be present at the opening reception, which is scheduled from 1 to 3 pm.

It all started with a discarded wall paper sample book. Using the wallpaper as background, the students integrated their pastel drawings giving them a 3-D effect. This new technique was very popular with her students.

Judy Fairley teaches pastel through
Walla Walla Community College. Her affiliation with the college and THE VALLEY ART CENTER has been almost 35 years in the making. She grew up in Clarkston where she and her twin sister helped on the family’s horse ranch. Having always loved to draw, the animals provided her with endless hours of material.

Judy has shown all across the country and has been affiliated with ‘WOMEN ARTISTS OF THE WEST” for 34 years. This is a California based organization focused on the promotion of professionalism for women in the arts.

She has been a member and past president of the SNAKE RIVER SHOWCASE for 26 years, and a member of “ BRIDGING THE ARTS”, a local art organization. Judy is also an advisory board member of the Celebration of Western Art in Puyallup, Washington and a Board of Director for the FRED OLDFIELD WESTERN HERITAGE CENTER.

Fairley has been flying to Seattle to interview Fred for the past 3 months for a documentary film on his life. Her latest awards have been Jurors’ Choice award for “Hummingbirds” at the Saks Gallery in Denver, Colorado, and the Terry Ludwig Pastel of Merit award for the International Women Artists of the West Show and Sale in Rockport, Texas.
