October 30, 2013: Halloween Party at the Malden Library, 205 South Moreland. Join Librarian Karen and Helpers Grandma Cathy and Mel at 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m., for Halloween Festivities!

October 31, 2013: Trick or Treat at the Alice Porter Memorial Library, 402 S. Whitman Ave.  Enter the Costume Contests for Children, Teens and Adults. Treats for trick and treaters, and Prizes for the best costumes in each category will be handed out between 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m.

Free martial arts classes are available through the Colfax Library, taught by karate and self defense instructor, Jeanelle Miller.

Classes will be each Tuesday and Thursday starting July 16 with children 12 and younger scheduled from 6:00 -7:00 p.m. and teens and adults meeting from 7:00 -8:00 p.m.

Classes are being held in The Center annex just south of the library.

Participants in both classes should come dressed to work out and bring plenty of water for hydration. All attendees or guardians of children need to sign waivers before participating.

Register by June 23, 2013 For A Free Clay Workshop to Begin Summer Creativity Series at the Dahmen Barn

 A free clay workshop kicks off the Summer Creativity Series at the Dahmen Barn on Friday, June 28, 2013 when resident artist Carole Galloway is offering two free sessions for kids at the Dahmen Barn. Carole’s specialty is working imaginatively and whimsically with FIMO clay. Her goal with these workshops is to spark the imagination of the students and have them successfully complete a finished product.

These workshops are scheduled from 10:30 a.m. to noon and 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. and are for children aged 6 to 12.

No walk-ins the day of the classes can be accommodated. Carole will have a tip jar out to cover her gas from Lenore, Idaho.

On July, 11, 2013 the 7th annual Summer Creativity Series for children begins on and goes for 6 consecutive Thursday afternoons.

Each day from 1:00 p.m. to 3:15 p.m., children aged 6 to 12 can enjoy two fun topics with a healthy snack in between.

The sessions are led by practicing artists from the Palouse region.
Thanks to a grant from the U S Bancorp Foundation, the Dahmen Barn is able to offer each afternoon for $12 per child this year. See the website calendar for what is being offered each afternoon.

Registrations must be received by the end of the day on Sunday preceding the class.

Artisans at the Dahmen Barn is a non-profit creativity center in Uniontown at 419 highway 195, in the big white Barn behind the famous iron wheel fence. The facility is fully handicap accessible and has no daily admission fee. It is open Thursday through Sunday from 10 am to 6 pm. Information: www.artisanbarn.org or 509-229-3414.

Garfield Library Thanks Community for its Support

The primary classes at Garfield Elementary lead the annual library penny drive by raising $186.86 in April.

 

Congratulations to Mrs. Kern’s class for being the biggest donor! Librarian Kelsey will see you at your cupcake and ice cream party. Donations from the school and branch totaled $193.50. Garfield has a truly great community.

The Garfield Library has received $400 in quality children’s books as a part of a 2 to 1 matching grant from the Libri Foundation.  The $150 in matching money was raised through library book sales.  Each title was personally selected by Librarian Kelsey with her customers in mind.  Watch for announcements of the date for a special community reading to introduce children to the great new books.

Children’s Summer Reading is right around the corner; with the first program on June 12 at 3 p.m.  Adult and teen summer reading runs from June 1 through August 31.

 

All participants will be rewarded with something special.  Hastings Entertainment has provided a $20 gift certificate for the teen summer reading drawing.  The generosity of the community helps make all our programs extra special.

Summer Reading Program at Colton Branch Library

Children’s Summer Reading is now finished and proved to be a tremendous success with 37 children completing the program in Colton Library.

Two weeks remain in the Adult and Teen Summer Reading program. Completed entry forms need to be returned by August 30, 2012, in Colton or August 31, 2012, online to receive an individual prize and to be entered into the prize drawings.
