McIntosh Grange, Rockford, Wash., donated 100 pillows, 26 fleece blankets, 41 flannel burp cloths, 10 fleece baby blocks, 30 fleece footballs, school supplies and 22 pair gloves to the My Bag Program, the non-profit program for kids going into foster care.
Back packs filled with age and gender specific items including a book, age appropriate toy, blanket, toiletries, school supplies, etc (diapers, bottle wipes for babies) are packed and stored to be given through DSHS to kids taken into foster care, which is under the C.A.S.A. (court appointed special advocates) program in Spokane County.
The items the grangers donated are part of their "sewing group" production from spring work.
Carol Evans said, "We have young people who are practicing for Rose Drill for the Washington State Grange Convention in Spokane, held June 20-23, 2012 at the Spokane County Interstate Fairgrounds.
"Rachel and Paul Fricke and Addison Bowen performed at the District Talent Show/Contest in April and will be in the Talent show at State Convention.
"Sewing, Photography, Needlework, Canning, Crafts, Quilts, and Baking items will be in the County contests held in Rockford at the grange hall on First St., on May 19, 2012. The contest is open to everyone, with no need to be a grance member to enter. Purple ribbon winners will go on to State Competition in the Grange Convention, held in June.
Chris and Lisa Bowen are taking part in the National Legislative Fly-In for Grange in Washington, DC on May 14, 15, and 16, 2012.
Camp NEWA is scheduled for July 29-August 4th, 2012, at Princess Pine Camp on Lake Thomas, about 20 miles northeast of Colville, Wash. This is one of six Junior Grange Camps in the State of Washington this summer.
Carol Evans is the director. Kathy Creed is the craft leader. Any kid 9-14 years of age is welcome to attend. There are brochures at the Grange Hall, and Kathy or Carol would be happy to talk to kids and parents about the benefits of attending camp, and possible financial help on a case-by-case basis.
