Government News on the Palouse Showing Unprecedented Interest

Government news on the Palouse is being read by increasing numbers and readership is spiking when Rockford Town Council minutes are published, despite the delay when the The North Palouse Washington eNewscast receives and publishes them.

During the last month over 300 readers viewed The North Palouse Washington eNewscast Government Page, which in addition to Fairfield and Palouse government news, included the following Rockford government news:
  • Three ordinances approved, a public hearing on an alley closure, plus Town Council Minutes: April 3rd, 17th, May 1st and May 15th received from town clerk on June 20, 2013, publishing delayed to July 5, 2013 due to editor on vacation.
  • June 5, 2013 Town Council minutes received and published July 18, 2013
  • June 19, 2013 Town Council minutes received and published July 18, 2013
  • July 3, 2013 minutes of a public hearing received and published July 18, 2013
  • July 17, 2013 Town Council minutes received and published August 8, 2013

Palouse City Council and Fairfield Town Council news, which arrive at the paper on a timely regular basis, have always had a steady following of readers. However random checks of statistics of other towns linked on The North Palouse Washington eNewscast which publish their minutes on their town websites shows readership varies considerably by town.

Recently, Rockford officials have faced tough decisions due to increasing revenue shortages which resulted in discussions and actions on raising fees and taxes for town residents, including a $40 a month assessment approved by Avista, plus a 3% increase in base utility fees.
