Palouse Food Bank & Pantry Day Dates During October and November 2013

 

The Palouse Food Bank will be open this Wednesday, October 22, 2013, from 1:00 p.m. -3:00 p.m. at the Palouse Community Center.

 

In addition, any resident of Whitman county is eligible to access the food pantry in Colfax on the second Tuesday of each month from 4:00 p.m. -  6:00 p.m., so the next pantry day is November 12, 2013. It's located in the basement of the DSHS Building at 418 Main St., in Colfax, and you can access it at the rear down a ramp.

Palouse Food Bank Open September 25, 2013 in Palouse, Washington

 

The Palouse Food Bank will be open this Wednesday, September 25, 2013, from 1:00 p.m. -3:00 p.m. at the Palouse Community Center. However, due to changes at Council on Aging, our sponsor agency, we will be receiving less food food this month while they restructure the distribution sites.

 

We apologize for any inconvenience and hope that next month we are back to providing food at our regular levels. Thank you for your understanding and we will do our best to distribute the food that we have.

Palouse Food Bank Distribution June 26, 2013

The Palouse Food Bank will have its monthly distribution tomorrow, June 26, from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00p.m. at the Palouse Community Center.  Anyone in need of food assistance living within the 99161 zip code is welcome.

Hangman Creek Chamber of Commerce is an active, group of progressive business owners which actively promotes the communities of Fairfield, Latah, Mica, Rockford, Spangle, Valleyford & Waverly.

*Beginning June 17, 2013, 12 noon, Monday through Friday - Free summer meals for all kids. Town of Fairfield Community Center, 304 E. Main. Open to all kids ages 1-18. (No meal program July 4.)

*Scholarship winners! Each year one winner is selected from Freeman High School and one from Liberty High School. This year's winners are Brittany Breidenbach (Liberty High School) and Christian Dresback (Freeman High School.)

*The May 30, 2013, Mobile Food Bank sponsored by Co-Ag with Ken Fuchs and Rockford Lions Club with Sam Meyle was a success! 27 volunteers, 125 people took food for their families, total number of people served was 325. More than 7,400 pounds of food was distributed.

* A good way to know about local crime is to be on the Chamber email list so that you can get these reports.  Report Crime to the Chamber Secretary, Bev Bergstrom, or President, Vivian Plank.  Spokane County Sheriff Ozzie Knezovich mentioned at a Town Hall Meeting at McIntosh Grange in Rockford June 12, 2013, and suggested that to the audience.

(Knezovich also said to contact your local Scope for an email address to report crime.)

* Bloodmobile – Sign up on website: INBC http://www.inbc2.org and donate blood anytime to the Hangman Creek Chamber Fund. Contact Ken Fuchs if anyone you know of in the area needs blood donated to them. We have about 45 pints available. They expire in 1 year so we lose 2-3 pints each month. *Fairfield Care Assisted Living Now Open - plans are in the works to upgrade the independent living apartments to assisted living status. For more information, call Lorell at (509) 283-2232.

 

*The NORTH PALOUSE COMMUNITY FOOD BANK needs to replenish their shelves. They need Breakfast Cereal and Peanut Butter. You can drop the items off at City Hall in Fairfield, Wash.

 

* 3"x5" cards are at Town Halls and post offices in Fairfield, Latah, Mica, Rockford, Spangle, Valleyford & Waverly on the Palouse for people moving into the area to fill out so the Chamber can call and make appointments to deliver New Comers Bags and Invitations to the Newcomers Dessert held each year.  (*Note: Welcome Bags need items from businesses and all items should be delivered to Bev Bergstrom at Fairfield Library or Vivian at Banner Bank in Rockford, OR brought to a Chamber meeting.)

 

*Membership is open to any interested person as well as businesses. 2013 dues are due and include having your name and email or website address listed in the member directory. There is an option, for an additional fee, for a banner ad on the website.

Palouse Food Bank August 2012 Schedule

Dear Patrons of the Palouse Food Bank,

Our distribution of food in Palouse takes place on the Wednesday of the last full WORK week of each month.  This month has a last work week that ends on a Friday, so Wednesday, August 29, will be our next distribution day.  I hope this isn't too confusing!  Please do not come on August 22 as there will not be any food there that day.  We look forward to serving you on August 29 between 1:00 and 6:00 pm at the Palouse Community Center.

Palouse Food Bank Food Distribution Successful

Palouse Food Bank continues to grow! In May of 2012 Palouse Food Bank distributed approximately 2500 pounds of good, nutritious food to the economically less fortunate residents of Palouse, WA.

This food is available to anyone who needs it and who lives within the 99161 zip code. There are no income restrictions whatsoever.

Please donate your extra fruits and vegetables. Bring them to our distribution site on the 4^th Wednesday of each month. This month’s wish list: We need more peanut butter and jelly and also canned meats. If you have a garden which is producing too much, we are happy to help with the surplus.

Our next distribution will be Wednesday, June 27th, 2012.

Your donations benefit the most vulnerable residents of Palouse (99161) residents.

We distribute food on the fourth Wednesday of each month from 1:00 until 6:00 pm in the Palouse Community Center building on Main Street in Palouse.

Last month our truck from Second Harvest of the Northwest brought fresh artichokes, onions, pears, apples, potatoes, lettuce and spinach. These foods are very healthy additions to the diets of people who might otherwise not have fresh, healthy vegetables and fruits.

We also had bread to give away and there was a large supply of frozen chicken. From a local food drive in the City of Palouse we distributed 230 pounds of canned goods as well.

Council on Aging secured 90 dozen (that is 1080) eggs! This, in addition to a local egg farm, which has very generously continued to donate their surplus eggs, has provided much needed protein to families.

Palouse Food Bank was able to distribute this food to 50 families in the City of Palouse in May. This is a 12% increase from the previous month’s distribution.

Many of these people are senior citizens or single mothers with small children who simply don't have enough income to provide any luxury for themselves or their families. The food bank offers these individuals and families hope and a buffer against hunger.

We are currently expanding our distribution and anyone who knows a Palouse resident in need of food, please tell them to come on down and take this food home to their family! We generally have lots of extra food that we need to give away - it is good, fresh, and nutritious. Please help us get it to those who need it.

We are sponsored by the Council on Aging of Colfax, WA, the LaDow Grange of Garfield, WA, and are helped by WSU's Center for Civic Engagement, WSU's Sigma Kappa sorority, Pullman's Sacred Heart Catholic Parish, and volunteer residents of Palouse.

We are serving more people every month. Please spread the word.
