Celebrate Winter with Whitman County Library December 6. 2012. In conjunction with the Colfax Christmas celebration, the library, 102 S. Main Street, hosts a number of fun activities for people of all ages. The fun concludes about 6 p.m. with a community parade and fireworks extravaganza. Colton Branch Library Storytime Focusing on Shapes

Throughout December, Storytime at the Colton Branch Library will continue to focus on shapes, as it did in November. A different shape will be explored each week through crafts, stories, and snacks. Thanksgiving was celebrated, and Christmas will be celebrated as well. Storytime is held at the library every Monday at 10:30 a.m. for children ages 1-6.

Third Thursday, the after-school program at the Colton Library, will have a special December theme, too. Children from kindergarten through 6^thgrade are welcome to join in the fun at 3:15 p.m. A snack will be provided.


The Colton/Uniontown Book Club read the book The Big Burn: Teddy Roosevelt and the Fire That Saved America, by Timothy Egan, during the month of November.

Rockford Banks Support Local Crafters and Small Businesses

Both banks in Rockford, The Bank of Fairfield and Banner Bank, are having a “Christmas Shoppe” inside the banks.

"We are supporting local businesses and have some amazing talent in this area!  Come see what we have for sale!  This will run from now until the Friday before Christmas.  Individual Crafters and small businesses have set things up," Vivian Plank, Manager of Banner Bank said.

Red Plastic Bags are a No, No, for Recycling Bin at Fairfield

"I have had some people inquiring about putting the red bags from the newspapers into the recycling. I asked Empire Disposal about them and those bags are similar to the plastic grocery bags, thus being a NO! Please do not put them into the recycling, they can really mess up the machines. That was a long, drawn out way to just say please don't recycle those red bags here!

"Thanks for questioning it. If you ever wonder about an item, just let me know and I can find the answer out for you," clerk at Fairfield, Washington said.
