CITY OF PALOUSE
The City of Palouse will soon be hiring lifeguards for
the 2013 summer season. In order to be considered for the job, you must
be certified in First Aid, CPR, & Lifeguard Training. You must also
be a minimum of 15 years of age. WSU, UI, & the Pullman
Aquatic Center all offer certification classes. Check their websites for

PALOUSE POOL LIFEGUARD JOB DESCRIPTION
Minimum qualifications: Current certified lifesaving, first aid and
CPR cards are required upon start of employment. Current WSI preferred. Minimum age of 15.
Responsible for the daily
operation and maintenance of pool, including the safety and welfare of the
public while within the facility, swim lesson instruction, maintenance duties,
and public relations.
Duties include but are not
limited to the following:
1. Lifeguard
a. Provide a safe environment for patrons. Trained and prepared for rescue and
lifesaving.
b. Understand and follow emergency procedures as
necessary.
c. Attend EMS training.
2. Swim Lessons
a.
Teach swim lessons in a professional, engaging manner.
3. Maintenance and Operation:
a. Attend pool orientation, pool opening and
pool closing.
b. Daily maintenance as per the pool
manual. Weekly vacuuming.
c. Decide on temporary pool closure due to
inclement weather, if Pool Manager is unavailable.
d. Check every
morning for any maintenance problems or need for additional supplies/chemicals
(i.e., toilet paper, paper towels, soap).
Notify City Hall if needed.
4. Public Relations:
a.
Maintain professional conduct with public at all times
Remember that you are representing the
City at all times.
b. All
lifeguards must provide and wear their own red, blue, or
black lifeguard-type swimsuit.
5. Physical Demands:
a. Must be able to remain outdoors, under the hot
sun, for hours at a time. Required to sit and stand for lengthy periods of
time. Must have the ability to perform
all safety &/or emergency procedures.
