Palouse Websites Can Be Tantalizing and Educational

The websites of many Palouse organizations and entities contain links to information useful to area residents. However, when websites are not kept current, you're bound to find dead links among the good ones.

Rockfordblogspot is a good example. Two of the three links to aging, posted in 2006, work: National Institute on Aging, and Administration on Aging.

Agriculture links still valid include: The US Department of Agriculture, and Department of Agriculture, Cooperative State Research, Education, and Extension Service. However, the link for Department of Agriculture Farm Service Agency returns an error message, but you'll find it  here .

General Adult Education included links to the following: Administration of Children and Families, and Corporation For National and Community Service.  The Corporation for National and Community Service engages Americans of all ages and backgrounds in service to help strengthen communities. Also sponsors AmeriCorps, Senior Corps, and Learn and Serve America. Provides information on jobs, internships, and fellowships.

Federal Citizen Information Center, Consumer Products Information Catalog,  Check the Federal Programs link for on-line brochures and other information on Medicare and Social Security which may be of benefit to individuals.

The link to Horizons Washington Grant Information  leads to a broad spectrum of useful links. The Health links provide good information, too.

The website's Kid link enticed me to scroll again, and I'm glad I did.  Kids.Gov  was worthwhile.

Although I'm an avid history buff, my time is limited, and I freely admit I'm an impatient researcher. Annoyed by having to scroll past the large historical picture to continue exploring links, and finding far too many dead links, I gave up and ended my exploration with this wonderful "Kids" link, Smithsonian For Kids .

Nonetheless, I'm still an avid visitor to the Palouse region's websites and as time permits, I'll gladly highlight them here.

Rockford Community Center ~~ A Place For All Ages

Rockford Community Center ~ Except on December 31st, the center is open, 229 S. 1st., Tuesday evenings, 6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m., and on Wednesdays, 10: a.m. - 2 p.m.

Come get a book for a cozy night in your favorite chair!  Three Public Computers, and WI-FI for those of you with a laptop that need to hook up to it. 




 

Colton Library Cheery and Delightful!

The weather outside may be frightful, but the Colton Library, 760 Broadway Ave., Colton, Wash., is cheery and delightful. Librarian Holly Meyer is planning holiday themes for December Storytimes with crafts, stories, and snacks for the season.  Storytime is held at 10:30 every Monday for children ages 1-6.

All 14 Whitman County libraries will be closed December 23,  24 & 25th.

During Storytime on Monday, December 31, 2012, :30 p.m., we will explore shapes. We will discuss a different shape every week in December through crafts color pages and stories. A snack will be provided. Storytime is held Mondays at 10:30 a.m. for children ages 1-6.

Bored during Christmas break? Grab a friend and come to the library game day Dece,ber 31st from 12:30 - 2:30 p.m. The library has a few games and some cards, or you can bring your favorite game to share. See you at the library!

 

 

Whitman County Libraries Selling 2013 Barns of Whitman County Calendars

 

The 2013 Barns of Whitman County Calendars are now available at all Whitman County Libraries for $6 each. The calendars have scenic photos of various barns throughout Whitman County and make wonderful Christmas gifts.

 

The Friends of Whitman County Library Cookbooks have been marked down to $5 and make great Christmas gifts as well!
