Fairfield Gets Larger Recycle Bin

We [town of Fairfield, Washington] have an empty but different recycling bin. Since the town was having to have ours emptied about every three weeks, Empire Disposal felt that we should go to the next size, which is 40 cubic yards.

In order to have one that large, there are no doors on the sides. The lids are on top which means that you will have to use stairs to access it.

I truly hope this does not cause any hardship for anyone. It is important to know how you like this one so please pass on your feedback to me.

I was just looking at last year's newsletter and Fairfield has been recycling for one year with NO PROBLEMS! (knock on wood). Thank you for being such clean and faithful recyclers.

"Unscramble The Palousoe Slogan 2013" Contest Open

Individuals needed

You're invited to participate in the Palouse Chamber of Commerce's "Unscramble the Palouse Slogan 2013" contest.

We need individuals/artistic people to make the letters that will be used in the contest.

If you wish to participate, pick up one letter from Grammy G's Quilt Shop, 124 E. Main Street, Palouse, WA, 509-878-1660.

You will transform this 16"x20" letter into a piece of art.  The letter needs to remain recognizable.  Please frame your letter if possible.

Letters must be finished by May 30, 2013, and turned in at Grammy G's Quilt Shop.  The letters will be on display from June 1, 2013, through Sept. 10, 2013, in various downtown businesses (fading may occur).

Palouse Day, September 14, 2013, we will display the slogan (made from all the individual art piece letters) at the Palouse Community Center.  The slogan letters will become the property of the Palouse Chamber and will be sold at the Fall Craft Fair to raise money for the Palouse Chamber.

For more information, contact Debbie Goetz, Grammy G's Quilt Shop, 509-878-1660.

7th Annual Art Demonstration Day at Artisans at the Dahmen Barn April 13, 2013

Dahmen Barn’s 7th annual Art Demonstration Day features creating with natural materials

The 7th annual art and craft demonstration day at Artisans at the Dahmen Barn in Uniontown will feature artisans who work with natural materials.  This year’s event is scheduled from 11 am to 4 pm on Saturday, April 13, 2013 and is free to the public.  Many of the resident artists at the Dahmen Barn incorporate natural materials in their work and visiting artists from the region will fill the Barn and the yard behind the wheel fence.  All will have items they have created for sale.  A list of all participants may be found on the calendar item at www.artisanbarn.org.

Artisans at the Dahmen Barn began the annual demonstration event the spring of 2007, a few months after its grand opening, to bring together many local artists who work with the same materials.  Each year has had a different theme:  fiber, wood, glass, clay, paper, recycled materials.  Participating artists demonstrate their own technique or approach to using those materials and the public is invited to observe and learn. Since creativity is the emphasis at the Barn, it is hoped attendees will choose to explore a medium in more depth after watching the artists at work.

Artisans at the Dahmen Barn is a non-profit creativity center on highway 195 in Uniontown in the big white barn behind the famous iron wheel fence.  The facility is fully handicap accessible and has no daily admission fee.  It is open Thursday through Sunday from 10 am to 6 pm.  Information:  www.artisanbarn.org or 509-229-3414.
