GarPal Colton Placed in 2nd District Meet



GarPal Colton coach, Patti Green-Kent, said GarPal Colton had another great showing at their 2nd district meet of the season, Friday, March 30, in Clarkston, Wash. The weather cooperated with just a little rain/snow and wind, but not too bad. 8 teams competed at the meet: Waitsburg/Prescott, DeSales, Asotin, Pomeroy, Walla Walla Valley, Garfield-Palouse/Colton, St. John-Endicott/LaCrosse-Washtucna; & Tekoa-Oakesdale/Rosalia.

PR's were the achievement of the day as 3 athletes surpassed their previous records.

On the ladies side, high team scorer was junior Cassie Thompson, as she took 1st place in the 200m race with a PR of 29.12, placed 3rd in the long jump (13'09"), placed 5th in the high jump (4'02") and 5th in the 100m (PR of 14.82).

Next came junior Holly Leendertsen, who placed 3rd in the 200m (20.28), 4th in the long jump (12'6.5"), and 6th in the 100m (14.85).

Senior Grace Druffel had her first win ever as she easily took 1st place in the grueling 300m hurdles (PR of 55.07). Druffel also PR'd in the 200m race.

On the men's side, high team scorer was senior Jeff Kent, who placed 2nd in the 200m and 2nd in the pole vault.

Senior Derrick Bosch placed 5th in the discus and 6th in the shot put.

Sophomore Kevin Knauff placed 5th in the 800m with a PR of 2:28.97 and also placed 5th in the 1600 meter race.

The VikCat 4x400 relay team, comprised of Kent, Bosch, Knauff, and junior Nick Robertson (tough race) placed 3rd with a time of 3:58.67.

The team has the week off for spring break but will hit it hard next week when they host the first ever District 9 meet at Pullman High School on Wednesday, April 11. They head to the Moscow Invitational April 13.
