All day, May 12, 2012, folks at Rockford, Wash., will engage in cleanup activities. "Park Clean Up Day" begins when volunteers arrive at the park on First Street, to begin sprucing up the area. The fenced cement court where basketball games are played, the popular covered pavillion where folks gather to eat during numerous community activities, the stage, buildings, and memorial garden, are just a few of the amenities meriting attentions.
Winter debris from trees and shrubs, and all the sundry "stuff" blown into the park by breezes is sure to fill many trash bags.
So, put on sturdy footwear, bring your gloves and rakes, and pitch in to help.
The date is also "Community Tire Recycling Day." Tires will be accepted from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the site north of the Post Office on Emma, Street.
If you haven't licensed your dog(s), stop in at the Town Hall and do so. Also, remember when you're walking your leashed pet to take along a supply of doggy bags to pick up any fesces it deposits, and please try not to let your animal foul playgrounds where children romp.
Beware of stry and un-licensed dogs that frequently roam the streets of Rockford. It's wise to carry pepper spray, in case of attack, as at least one dog has a vicious history, and has not been removed from town permanently.
If you see any litter in town, please do your part and help keepRockford clean. Pastor David Lura does an exemplary job of picking up and disposing of litter, on his daily walks, but you help is needed also. Gusting winds circulate every bit of trash encountered, depositing it indiscrimately throughout town, but especially against fences, in shrubbery and flower beds, gardens and around buildings.
